George Dimopoulos has been giving free food on Thanksgiving PDF Print E-mail

In a suburb of Detroit, in Northfield, Michigan, for the past 10 years George Dimopoulos has been showing America the meaning of Greek philotimo and philoxenia. On Thanksgiving Day, he serves free food all day to those who might be alone and have no family to celebrate with.

To George, it’s just a part of his Greek heritage to give.

Dimopoulos came from Greece when he was 23 years old. He grew up in a poor household and his parents sent him to Athens when he was just 12 years old, unable to provide for him.

He got by with the help of random people while he was in Athens, struggling to get his life in order— even being homeless for a time.
