The legendary actor, director, and producer, Mel Gibson, is on a pilgrimage or spiritual retreat at Mount Athos, the Holy Mountain in #Greece: “I have never felt such a strong connection to God anywhere else as I do here.” The Hollywood icon, devout Christian, and filmmaker Mel Gibson has arrived at the revered Hilandar Monastery on Mount Athos, Greece the heart of Orthodox spirituality.
According to reports, Gibson will spend several days immersed in the sacred life of the Holy Serbian Imperial Lavra, one of the most profound spiritual strongholds of the Orthodox world. Welcomed warmly by the brotherhood of monks, Gibson described his journey to the Holy Mountain as “life-changing.”
The 69 year old Oscar Academy Award winning actor and director of Braveheart in 1996 has been to Mount Athos before. He is reportedly working on ‘The Resurrection of the Christ’, the sequel to ‘The Passion of the Christ’ (which grossed over $600 million worldwide) is reported to begin filming in 2025 and be released in 2026.
