With a record 18 movie productions expected to be shot in beautiful Greece in 2021 (some still confidential), every film piece wants to film in Greece. You can expect to see many Hollywood stars in Greece this summer than you might find at Chateau Marmont during your usual Oscar week. Besides Viggo and Kirsten, catch Daniel Craig and Kate Hudson, for instance, just two of the many, many names confirmed for the “Knives Out” sequel, which is filming in Greece starting this June. With plot details under wraps, but a murder mystery anchored once again by a problematic detective played by Daniel Craig, that movie has a cast that includes: Edward Norton, Leslie Odom Jr., Kathryn Hahn, and Janelle Monáe.
What attracts Hollywood? Attractive tax rebates, magical climate that provides long daylight hours which are ideal for shooting, component crews, and affordable costs. Greece was already moving up before the pandemic, however everything picked up even more after Greece’s prompt management of the Coronavirus. The variety of its exotic locations, world-renowned Blue Flag beaches that were voted 2nd best in 2021, over 227 islands, plus ancient architecture referencing the Venetians, the Ottomans and even the Byzantine era has made Greece a magnet for projects such as “Tehran” the Apple TV series. The 2nd season of that show is filming, with Athens once again subbing in for Tehran.
