The Most Beautiful Snowy Photos & Videos from Greece

Snow storm “Elpida” brought historic heavy 35cm snow to the capital of Athens on Monday. Many parts of Greece had snow from Peloponnesus, to even the Greek islands of Evia, Naxos, Mykonos, Santorini, Tinos, Amorgos and more and also in many northern parts of Greece. Snow even fell on the ancient 2500 year old Acropolis hill and all the way to the coast in the south, disrupting air traffic and causing endless hours of road traffic for many in Athens. Snowstorm “Elpida” hit across Greece, covering Athens and its suburbs. Rescue crews freed drivers stranded for hours on Athens roads. Bus and train services in Athens were suspended. Heavy snowfall is usually rare in Athens, but it has now been hit by snowstorms for a second consecutive year.

It was a nightmare for many driving as they were stuck in traffic for 3 hours on certain roads and for over 8 hours on Attiki Odos. The military was even called in to help with the 35 cm historic snowfall. More snow is expected on Tuesday as Athens tries to clean up the snow and has ordered a lockdown of the capital.
