A major motion picture starring Hollywood Oscar winner Robert De Niro will be shot in the northern Greek region of Drama, establishing Greece as a worldwide filming destination for cinema and television. Hollywood is Hellaswood! “After Exile” is an action film about a tense relationship between a father and his son, who has recently been released from prison, as they try to lead a relative away from a life of crime. Shia LaBeouf will portray his son, while De Niro will play his father.
Filming in Greece is scheduled to begin in March or April of Spring 2022, although it is unknown whether the entire film will be shot there or just a few sequences. In the spring, local businesses and hotels in Drama, which is located in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, expect around 300 people, including cast and crew, to arrive for filming.
This isn’t the first film to be shot in Greece recently. In November, Thessaloniki hosted the filming of “The Expendables 4.” Over the course of two weeks, a set was built on the city’s east side, where the cast and crew filmed their sequences. Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Megan Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Tony Jaa, and Andy Garcia were among the Hollywood stars who filmed in Thessaloniki. Sylvester Stallone, the franchise creator, also took part in the shoot.
De Niro has also personally invested in Greece, with a luxury Nobu Hotel and Restaurant that will open on Santorini this Spring. Nobu Hospitality was started by and a collaboration between the restaurant’s Japanese celebrity chef, Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and businessman Meir Teper. The cuisine is a creative twist to Japanese cuisine with Peruvian ingredients.
