The Parthenon, the symbol of Western civilization, is one of the 7 wonders of the world. The marble temple was built between 447 and 432 B.C. and is over 2,500 years old. The “Parthenona” was dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, and sits high above a compound of temples known as the Acropolis of Athens. Throughout the centuries, the Parthenon has withstood earthquakes, fires, wars, explosions and looting yet remains, although battered, a powerful symbol of Ancient Greece, democracy, and the resilience of the Greek culture.
